We were lucky to catch up with Jack Ward recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jack, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
When I began to write and produce Audio Drama. I didn’t realize I would be at the forefront of the revitalization of an old medium and one of the progenitors and shapers of that medium for whole new generations.
It began when I started a radio show called “The Sonic Society” which through the years has been the largest and longest-running showcase of modern audio drama.
Time, changing directions, finding and losing co-hosts, and personal heartache all kept drawing obstacles in the way, but I continued to learn and grow from other artists, and have written over a hundred and fifty of my own plays, and started a new network- The Mutual Audio Network- that remains to be the largest curated collection of Modern Audio Drama and fiction in podcast form with over 12,000 shows and daily releases as we begin our 8th season in March!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes. Stories are the basic building blocks of the universe.
Everything is told through stories, and we are so thirsty for them, we look for them in our daily lives, our business, our sports, and of course, our entertainment.
Stories bind us. They make us stronger, safer, and part of growing communities because they open ourselves up to each other. Without stories we would pass away.
There is a famous Indigenous story that says there are the four great appetites of Man.
The first is food. And a man can last weeks without it.
The second is water, and a man can survive days without water.
The third is air, and a man can exist minutes without breathing.
And the fourth is imagination, and if a man loses his imagination for a moment, he ceases to exist.
And all of that was just relayed to you, in a story.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Finding better ways to tell stories. Finding ways to connect with an audience. Finding better co-collaborators to bring new stories into the world.
